A Day At Catalina Island

A Day At Catalina Island

The most frequent question I got was “Is Catalina Island kid-friendly”?

The answer is YES!

We had the impression to just sit by the beach and enjoy this island, but even with last minute plans there was plenty to do!

Coyote Joe’s

We arrived at the island around 10:00AM, and got a great spot on the middle beach section.  The kids played with the sand and swam in the water for a good two hours.  Briella and I even took a little nap.  We then walked to a Mexican restaurant called “Coyote Joe’s” for lunch.  They had really good food!  I got cheese enchiladas and they filled me up with the amount of cheese they put in them.

It was now 1:30PM, and we walked to Descanso Beach Club side to get to a deeper side of water.  My son loves to snorkel in our pool so I thought this would be a great place to do so and to be able to see fish!  Sure enough, you can practically swim with the fish.  This side of the beach was pretty crowded and rocky so be prepared as we were not.

We rented a golf cart so that we would be able to cruise around the town.  It was very fun until we got caught for too many people on the cart.  We drove around for a good ten minutes and did get stopped and they took our cart away.  Yikes!

We decided to head back to find a spot on the middle beach although it was pretty crowded.  We ended up finding a spot on the South Beach side.  It was close to 4:00PM, and my son came up to me asking to go on the submarine to see fish.  I went to the ticket booth and sure enough there was the last ride at 4:15PM and we got lucky to get on.  We saw plenty of fish and you were able to feed the fish pressing a button for an extra charge on the submarine.  If you get sea sick easily, I highly do not recommend participating in this activity.

After the submarine it was almost time to depart so we decided to buy a pizza for a snack.  It wasn’t the best but it did okay for a snack.  We then started to head to the dock for departure when we stopped at a playground and had the kids play for 15 minutes.

When lining up to board to and back from the island, I would recommend to start lining up 30 minutes prior to get the seating of your choice. The ride on the boat lasted about 1 hour each way. I was pretty exhausted, and I was lucky to have my sister and parents come with us so I decided to take a nap. This was such a great busy day. We had not planned our day at all, but the kids did not get fussy at all and had the best time. I would definitely love to stay the night for next time.
